This strange invitation was the beginning of it all. Not the typical sort that say “Hey, come make lanyards!” This one has an eerie wax seal and ornate script. Seemed fishy, but free summer camp, what can you say? False! It turns out that Sister Madeline, the meanest (and maybe undead?) nun ever, laid the trap.

Imagine this: instead of the typical promises of crafts, games, and outdoor activities, my invitation to summer camp came with an odd wax seal and enigmatic calligraphy. What a wonderful way to introduce someone to an amazing event! Despite the strange feelings, the temptation of a free summer camp was too much to ignore.

Now let’s explore Sister Madeline.

I didn’t know Sister Madeline was anything than an ordinary camp counselor, even though she had a nameplate and a kind smile. No, with a rod as strong as a battleaxe, she looked like a character out of a horror movie! She wasn’t entertaining us with campfire songs; instead, she had us running like we were avoiding errant dodgeballs in a school gym.

But do not be alarmed, my reader! I quickly learned how to deceive at this strange summer camp. I had the impression of a sly warrior with a variety of hiding places all throughout the scary school grounds, from storage rooms to old libraries covered in cobwebs that seemed like they belonged in haunted houses. I temporarily haven’t even had a massive washing machine (be careful around spinning cycles!).

That’s right, summer camp evolved into a fully functional escape room with a supernatural twist. Well, at least it’s more thrilling than finding out Nebraska’s capital—though it may come in handy against Sister Madeline. Make her laugh with trivia? I’m hoping to locate the hidden entrance before Sister Madeline completes her plans, so best of luck to me. When that happens, maybe I’ll be able to attend the actual summer camp with the lanyards.
